About WaterAid

Grace Nakacwa, 11, from Uganda, carrying clean, freshly pumped waterClean water is essential for life, yet 1.1 billion people in the world (roughly one sixth of the world’s population) do not have access to it.

WaterAid, with its partners, uses practical solutions to provide safe water and sanitation to the world's poorest people. To maximise health benefits, it does this through projects integrating domestic water provision, sanitation and hygiene education.

We work with individuals and families in their communities, paying special attention to the role of women, enabling them to take ownership of these projects and to maintain a lasting supply of safe water. And we influence others to do the same.

We believe that our approach makes it possible for communities to sustain a better quality of life, and is an essential step in the eradication of poverty. Together with our supporters, we strive for a world where everyone has access to safe water for life, for living, and for a lifetime.
