On Saturday 15 September 2012, walk for water so others don’t have to.

East Devon

This stunning 7-mile walk through the Otter Valley includes a family-friendly option over 4 miles along with plenty of refreshments, games and entertainment for a memorable day out. Explore the beautiful Otter Estuary, which is teaming with birds, before taking in views from the spectacular World Heritage Jurassic Coast.

Coast Along for WaterAid is the perfect way to discover and learn exciting new things while having lots of fun. This family-friendly walk covers 4 miles and an opportunity to explore the beautiful Otter Estuary Nature Reserve and site of special scientific interest. Children can follow our ‘Otter Quiz’ to learn more about the local area and wildlife.

The route begins on the signed coast path up the west side of the Ottery Valley and passing through the 23 hectare reserve which is teaming with birds and supports a significant population of wintering wildfowl and waders. Keep an eye out for the redshank, common sandpiper, curlew and red-breasted merganser.

The walk crosses the White Bridge over the estuary (the end of the all-access route) towards Otterton. Follow the Ottery Valley two miles further inland before emerging at Otterton Mill, which has won a Taste of the West Gold Award for Café-Restaurant. Hub walkers can relax and take advantage of our special offer at Otterton Mill with 20% off cream teas.

For families with smaller children, we recommend you turn back down the River Otter towards the Budleigh Salterton start point where there will be a post-walk reception with a BBQ, games for the children and the opportunity to learn more about WaterAid’s work.
